Reply from Moreland Council officer - Phillip Priest
Published 11 months ago in My life.Dear Mr Robertson,
I refer to your recent e-mail of 2 January 2008 to Roger Collins, Director City Development. An inspection of the former Coburg High School site confirms that since Council’s last correspondence to you of four or so weeks ago the demolition works on the site have been substantially completed. Council is currently awaiting advice from the site owner in respect to the timing for the removal of the remaining demolition rubble.
Without wishing to repeat any of the earlier advice that has been provided to you in respect to enforcement order proceedings, I advise that provided the site owner indicates that the demolition rubble will be removed within a reasonable and practical timeframe, I do not see any benefit in committing Council time and resources to an enforcement order application which would not be heard by VCAT for some months and which at best would result in an order setting out a further date for the completion of the demolition works.
Phillip Priest
Acting Director City Development

This seems to go beyond the pale. A developer seems to get away with everything just because they can sit on the land.
Doesn’t council response ignore the fact that the possibility of a huge fine would be the catalyst for immediate action. If nothing else, it would show that council were determined to pursue the issue. Priest’s response sounds like a real cop out!
Bad luck nimby boy -
Well well nimby or not I just want the Council to enforce their permits. At every turn Council has supported the owner.
Peter. You have the power. Go to VCAT youself and apply for an enforcement order. It seems to me that it is you that is the gutless stirrer!
No need GS - the workers are back and council seems to be dancing to Peter’s tune…..
Just for the record I think Peter is a NIMBY!
Thanx Phillip I sort of gathered that wa syour opinion and the opinion of most Moreland Council officers
