Whenever I complain at Moreland Council meetings about this site I am told I am a “nimby”. Who’d want an open gate, glass strewn concrete and used syringes accessible to their playing children??

This is part of the problem of having too many greenies and labor people on our councils. The only environment most of them know in university, and they haven’t a clue about living in the real world!

grumpyoldman….there is nothing wrong with greenie and labor people on Council. At least some of them think beyond the financial bottom line, with the Liberals it is mostly about the dollars and cents every time…User Pays Mentality.

I thought someone said Justin Madden was an OK sort of guy and that this eyesore would be taken care of. Perhaps This Day Tonight could film children playing among the needles which may provoke a reaction. The media getting involved always moves mountains (or bowels!) Well a reaction of some sort……

Perhaps you need to remind council that they have a duty of care to residents. If they fail to act, to rectify the situation and someone is harmed or injured as a result of their failure to act, they have failed their duty of care responsibilties and are liable. Also do they have a mission statement that you can refer them to.

Sorry Mary but the greenies and labor are too soft on drug use, needle exchanges and talk of shooting up rooms! Is it any wonder the problem is getting worse? Thinking beyond the bottom line is OK, but not when it results in waste of ratepayers money on projects like flower planters in median strips instead of pram crossovers in footpaths at intersections so people in wheel chairs and on motorised buggies can cross the road safely. Ratepayers money is a scarce resource and should not be used for self agrandisment as it is being by many mayors. They should be looking at where money is being ripped off them by contractors using non specified concrete in footpaths, and cheap paint in road markings, like in Moonee Valley. It is these same councils that are responsible for much of our road congestion, with roads narrowed through shopping centres so cars can’t get past trams, and bike paths that are so badly marked they cause more danger to cyclists than if they were not there.

Thnx VV. The duty of care argument does get a look in, but the enforcement of bylaws is non-existent. It is as if the owner can do as they please. The site has been like this for the 11 years since Kennett sold it - believe it or not.

How can this be for 11 years? Imagine how many people have died as a result of shooting up a hot mix or how many new drug addicts there are that had their first hit at Coburg High.
The owner, Moreland Council and the state government have blood on their hands for letting this to go on.
The question remains: Who will have the guts to actually close down this drug den?
Moreland Council what are you thinking as you look out your window each day at this building?
Oh let me guess the answer. What else can we blame on Kennett.

THEN KNOCK THE FLAMING DOWN, SMOOTH IT OUT AND PUT A PARK ON IT!!!

I doubt this will happen WB es[ecially with the ALP pro developer stance across all issues in Moreland.

Yeh WB…i doubt very much that unlike you and your NIMBY friends this landowner is going to build a park and hand it over to the community.

BTW when will you be demolishing your home, building a park and handing it over at no cost? - Of course never!

    NIMBY!
